MINUTES <br />Eugene City Council <br />Hult Center for the Performing Arts <br />1 Eugene Centre <br />Eugene, Oregon <br />January 3, 2019 <br />5:30 p.m. <br />Councilors Present: Emily Semple, Betty Taylor, Jennifer Yeh, Mike Clary Claire Syrett, Chris <br />Pryor; Alan Zelenka, Greg Evans <br />1. ENTERTAINMENT <br />Ratie and Friends (Ratie Dangarembwa and John Mambira) performed 'Woman of Africa," <br />2. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS <br />City Council President Mike Clark provided opening remarks. <br />3. VIDEO PRESENTATION <br />A video entitled "2018 City of Eugene Highlights"was shown. <br />4. ADMINISTRATION OF OATHS OF OFFICE <br />Deputy City Recorder Samantha Roberts administered oaths of office to Eugene City Councilors <br />Alan Zelenka, Jennifer Yeh, Mike Clark, and Greg Evans and EWEB Commissioner Mindy <br />Schlossberg. <br />S. COMMUNITY AWARD PRESENTATION <br />Mayor Vinis presented the 2018 Community Award to Better Housing Together. <br />6. BOLD STEPS AWARD <br />Mayor Vinis announced Hummingbird Wholesale as the 2018 Bold Steps Award winner, and <br />recognized Summit Bank and Yogi Tea as finalists. <br />7. ENTERTAINMENT <br />Ratie and Friends performed "Tsamba," <br />8. VIDEO PRESENTATION <br />A video entitled "City Council Reflections and Hopes for the Future" was shown. <br />9. STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS <br />Mayor Vinis delivered her 2019 State of the City address: <br />Year three begins. And, despite a national landscape that continues to be fraught with drama <br />and controversy, locally our work moves forward. Every day is a balancing act; every issue a set <br />of hard choices. Here's the thing: optimism is a choice and it is infectious. Our actions matter <br />and we can make a difference locally that improves the quality of life here and stands as a <br />model for other communities. <br />Paul Hawken, author, researcher and visionary, spoke in Eugene last year about his work, <br />Project Drawdown. His key message is that the 100 most effective projects we can undertake to <br />reverse global warming are work that we should do anyway.
