GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS
1292 University of Oregon, Eugene OR 97403-1292
T (541) 346-5020 F (541) 346-6251 www.uoregon.edu
An equal-opportunity, affirmative-action institution committed to cultural diversity and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act
The implementation of the UOPD student-assistance “ambassador program has been very successful
and is outlined below.
UOPD Safety Ambassadors – Take Home Service
The UOPD Safety Ambassador Program offers a free shuttle to University of Oregon Students during
Oregon Football games at Autzen Stadium, operating from kick-off through the start of the 3rd
quarter. This shuttle allows a safe transportation option for Oregon students who may be alone,
intoxicated or unable to get home safely on their own from Autzen Stadium. The shuttle provides
transportation from Autzen Stadium to their residence within the UOPD Safe Rides boundary map.
The purpose of this shuttle is to mitigate the harmful effects of alcohol-related issues and support
the safety and well-being for the University of Oregon students. Provide a safe alternative from
walking alone or driving under the influence and reducing the risk of endangering themselves and/or
others.
In addition to the Safe Rides service, student Safety Ambassadors educate their peers at a booth
prominently located at the South Gates of Autzen Stadium. Ambassadors promote campus resources
and ride services, positive fan behavior and safe partying, while assisting the education of athletics
new policies (clear bag policy, no re-entry) and prohibited items. During the 2018-19 home football
season, Safety Ambassadors provided over 500 rides home to students, with an average of four, 12
passenger vehicles, serving approximately 85 riders home per game.
April 22, 2019, Meeting - Item 3
