Contribution:
I have been looking for ways to get more involved in the
community, particularly those that involve analytical thinking and
role that provides meaning to me. One area I have looked at has
been working with law enforcement; I even considered applying
for the crime data analyst position a while back. I value the role
police officers and policing programs play in our daily lives, and I
value the risks and sacrifices that come with that. I also value the
high expectations the public expects of its police, however I feel
sometimes the public can rush to judgment without
understanding the facts or appreciating the varied contexts and
points of view, and being part of a body that can help bridge that
and support continuous improvement of a policing program
would be very meaningful to me. I would value being able to both
support EPD and its officers while at the same time also
supporting accountability and improvement within the
organization. I tend to bring a sense of conscientiousness and a
balanced and diplomatic perspective to the teams I serve on, and
I am driven by a strong ethic of integrity and responsibility. I
strive to look at issues and processes from a systems
perspective, and I enjoy engaging the complexity of difficult
issues. I also value data-driven decision making, and I enjoy
helping develop innovative ways to collect and use data to enable
improved decision making.
I believe these qualities and attributes would enable me to serve
the board as a dependable, thoughtful, and conscientious team
member.
Stan Dura
HRC - Round 1 Applications July 8, 2019, Meeting – Item 4
