June 2019 FAQ
found in LTD’s Long Range Transit Plan, the land use policies found in Envision Eugene, the safety goals
in the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan, the greenhouse gas reductions of the City’s Climate Action Plan,
among many other plans and policies.

How do decisions made about Transit Tomorrow influence MovingAhead?
Transit Tomorrow has engaged the community in a conversation about how to deploy LTD’s current
resources in the most effective manner: should LTD concentrate on frequency-oriented service in fewer
places or should LTD try to reach as many places as possible with less frequent service. This may result in
changes to LTD’s fixed route-bus network. In recent decisions, LTD staff have been directed to draft a
sample network that makes service more frequency-oriented. All of the MovingAhead corridors are
places where frequency-oriented service would be concentrated.
MovingAhead began studying the transit system in 2015. Much of the analysis comparing MovingAhead
alternatives to the existing network was completed in 2016-2017, so the analysis completed for
MovingAhead reflects changes compared to the network at that time. Because no decisions have been
made about service and network changes from Transit Tomorrow, precise modeling of how
MovingAhead will change in response to Transit Tomorrow would be speculative at best. While LTD’s
Board has provided direction on a draft network to explore, no specific changes have been approved
yet. But that doesn’t mean that the two projects won’t align.
Federal environmental regulations require all work to be updated to current conditions as individual
corridors in MovingAhead prepare for implementation. What this means is that when MovingAhead
corridors are being designed and permitted, staff will update ridership numbers, costs, and other topics
of interest to reflect current conditions including any changes made to the network. Over the 10-year
period of implementing MovingAhead, there will likely be many updates to LTD’s fixed-route network.
The project implementation process allows the community and decision makers to update our
MovingAhead designs to respond to changes as we work towards our overall vision.
WHAT WHERE WHEN

B
U
S

S
E
R
V
I
C
E

I
N
F
R
A
S
T
R
U
C
T
U
R
E

M
E
T
R
O

A
R
E
A

E
U
G
E
N
E

N
E
A
R

T
E
R
M

L
O
N
G
E
R

T
E
R
M

• • •

• • • •
July 15, 2019, Joint Work Session – Item1
