Streets whose primary function is to provide access to individual properties. Typically, <br />Local street <br />they carry fewer than 1,500 vehicles per day.Eugene has approximately 345 miles of local or <br />?neighborhood? streets. <br /> ? The work done to preserve and extend the life of transportation system components. <br />Preservation <br />While maintenance work does protect road surfaces, the term ?preservation? usually is applied to more <br />extensive repairs such as rehabilitation and reconstruction. <br /> Extensive street repair work that typically involves the excavation of the existing <br />Reconstruction ? <br />street to the road bed and the rebuilding of the road bed and surface layers of the street. Reconstruction <br />generally is at least four to five times more costly per lineal foot than rehabilitation. <br /> Surface repairs to streets.Examples of rehabilitation work include slurry seals (on <br />Rehabilitation ? <br />low-volume streets) and full paving overlays. <br /> Trees planted within the public right-of-way. Through the NeighborWoods program, <br />Street trees ? <br />volunteers are encouraged to plant and provide initial care for street trees. The City provides long-term <br />maintenance and specialized services such as pruning for street trees. <br /> The full range of transportation infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, <br />Transportation system ? <br />bicycle facilities (bike lane and off-street paths), traffic signs and signals, and street amenities. <br />The portion of the street in which vehicles operate.
