<br /> <br />ECC <br />UGENE ITY OUNCIL <br />AIS <br />GENDA TEM UMMARY <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Work Session: Defining Council Goals - What Does Success Look Like? <br /> <br /> <br />Meeting Date: January 31, 2007 Agenda Item Number: A <br />Department: City Manager’s Office Staff Contact: Dennis Taylor <br />www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 682-5336 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY <br /> <br />This work session is an opportunity for the council to further define its 2007-08 goals established at its <br />January 19-20 retreat and strategic planning session. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Following the two-day session, which was facilitated for the fourth consecutive year by Julia Novak of <br />Management Partners, Inc., ten City Council goals were identified, six continuing goals and four new <br />goals. They are as follows: <br /> <br />Continuing <br /> <br />1.Race: Enhance understanding of race issues and improve community relationships <br /> <br />2.Homeless Initiative: Continue to work collaboratively with our community partners to end <br />chronic homelessness in ten years <br />Blue Ribbon Committee <br />? <br /> <br />Youth <br />? <br /> <br />Women and children <br />? <br /> <br /> <br />3.City Hall: Adopt implementation plan for parallel process for City Hall and patrol facility <br />construction <br /> <br />4.Neighborhood Empowerment: Redesign the neighborhood initiative to support the <br />neighborhoods, which includes public participation in the livability and protection of <br />neighborhoods and identifies specific redevelopment strategies that preserves the integrity of <br />residential uses, including design standards, site review, down zoning, infill regulation, and <br />bolstering and empowering neighborhood associations to get more involvement <br /> <br />5.Arts and Outdoors: Strengthen our commitment to community arts and outdoors assets <br /> <br />6.Hospital: Facilitate the development of a full service hospital in Eugene <br /> <br /> New <br /> <br />1.Sustainability Initiative: Develop Office of Sustainability and Sustainability Commission that <br />supports broad sustainable practices and create a tool chest of things needed to support <br />businesses that produce sustainable products or provides or utilizes sustainable practices. <br /> <br />2.Downtown Initiative: Facilitate significant revitalization of downtown core. <br /> <br />3.Police Initiative: Increase police staffing with a special focus on supporting community policing <br />and reducing property crime. <br /> L:\CMO\2007 Council Agendas\M070131\S070131A.doc <br /> <br />
