RELATED CITY POLICIES
The City of Eugene has adopted the Safe Community Goal: A community where people feel safe,
valued and welcomed.

This initiative is also relevant for the City’s goal of “Effective, Accountable Municipal Government: A
government that works openly, collaboratively, and fairly with the community to achieve measurable
and positive outcomes;” and the goal of “Fair, Stable, and Adequate Financial Resources: A
government whose ongoing financial resources are based on a fair and equitable system of revenues and
are adequate to maintain and deliver municipal services.”

In addition, outcomes of the council’s Neighborhood Initiative will require police programs and services
that promote community policing.

COUNCIL OPTIONS

The purpose of this work session is to provide the council with preliminary information so that future
direction can be determined. Given the preliminary nature of this work session, the options are:
1) Direct the council’s Police Initiative committee to proceed with development of an Action Plan
incorporating the council concerns and direction from this work session.
2) Direct the council’s Police Initiative committee to return with additional information related to the
development of an Action Plan for City Council consideration at a future work session.
3) Take no action.

CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION

The City Manager recommends options 1-2, directing the Police Initiative committee to develop a draft
Action Plan and return to the council at a future date for additional discussion on this issue.

SUGGESTED MOTION

No motion is necessary as this is a work session for discussion.

ATTACHMENTS

A.
