Eugene -Springfield Area Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan <br />1. Mitigation Planning <br />1.4.4 Plan Goals <br />The NHMP Update Committee compared the goals identified in the Oregon and <br />Lane County NHMP with the (2014) Eugene -Springfield Area Multi - <br />Jurisdictional NHMP. Based on this review, the Committee adjusted the goals to <br />better align with companion plans and reflect current community hazard <br />mitigation needs. <br />2020 Goals <br />One: Save lives and reduce injuries. <br />Two: Minimize damage to buildings and infrastructure, especially to <br />critical facilities. <br />Three: Minimize economic losses and strengthen the economic well-being <br />of the Eugene -Springfield Metro Area. <br />Four: Decrease disruption and speed restoration of public services, <br />businesses, schools, and families. <br />Five: Protect environmental resources and utilize natural systems to <br />reduce natural hazard impacts. <br />Six: Foster public -private partnerships to achieve mitigation outcomes. <br />Seven: Utilize land development codes to mitigate risks posed by natural <br />hazards. <br />Eight: Protect natural, historic, and cultural resources. <br />Nine: Maintain and enhance current spirit of collaboration, <br />communication, and coordination among non -governmental <br />organizations (NGO), private sector, and public hazard mitigation <br />partners. <br />Ten: Integrate local natural hazard mitigation strategies into significant <br />community -wide plans. <br />Eleven: Document and evaluate the Eugene -Springfield metro region's <br />progress in implementing hazard mitigation strategies. <br />1-5 January 2020 <br />
