He said that the issue was one of community concern; in recent <br />discussions with four former mayors, two of the four had expressed concern about the perception <br />of conflict of interest resulting from the firm's representation of Hyundai because of the enterprise <br />zone. <br /> <br />Mr. Torrey asked if the City's legal firm would ethically be able to drop representation of Hyundai <br />once it had agreed to do so. He requested a response in writing. <br /> <br />Mr. Torrey said that the council should never let the City Manager lose authority over hiring. <br /> <br />Mr. Torrey suggested that the City would have a difficult time finding a local legal firm without an <br />actual or potential conflict of interest. <br /> <br />Mr. Johnson observed that 17 conflicts of interest had been reported by the firm in the last five <br />years, of which one was an actual conflict. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />James R.
