MINUTES <br /> <br /> Eugene City Council <br /> East Wing Conference Room--City Hall <br /> <br /> May 18,1998 <br /> 5 p.m. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Bobby Lee, Tim Laue, Ken Tollenaar, Scott Meisner, Nancy Nathanson, Betty Taylor. <br /> <br />ABSENT: Pat Farr, Laurie Swanson Gribskov <br /> <br /> I. APPLICANT INTERVIEWS FOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION <br /> <br />The council welcomed Norma Dominguez. Councilors introduced themselves. <br /> <br />Mr. Tollenaar explained the interview process and said that absent councilors would receive <br />copies of the meeting tape prior to a council work session to select the successful candidates. <br /> <br />Ms. Dominguez was asked the following questions: <br /> <br /> 1. What do you feel are the most important issues facing members of vulnerable <br /> communities in Eugene? What are your ideas to address those issues? <br /> <br /> 2. What do you perceive to be the role of the Human Rights Commission in <br /> assisting to solve those issues? <br /> <br /> 3. As a human rights advocate, what do you consider your strengths and <br /> weaknesses? <br /> <br /> 4. Why do you want to be a human rights commissioner? <br /> <br />Ms. Dominguez asked the councilors what each of them had done in their district for minority <br />communities. <br /> <br />Mr. Tollenaar thanked Ms. Dominguez and said that she would be contacted after the council met <br />on Wednesday, May 27. <br /> <br />The councilors briefly shared impressions of the candidate. <br /> <br />Mr. Lee joined the meeting at 5:25 p.m. <br /> <br />The council welcomed Chuck Dalton, and councilors introduced themselves. The council asked <br />Mr. Dalton the same series of questions asked of Ms. Dominguez. At the conclusion of the <br />interview, Mr. Tollenaar thanked Mr. Dalton and indicated that absent councilors would listen to <br />tapes of the interview before the council made its final selections on May 27.
