Eugene Police Commission <br />FY 2007 -2008 Work Plan <br />Work Plan Outcomes <br />Increase communications between police and the community, leading to a <br />OUTCOME 1. <br />greater understanding of the preferred policing alternatives for the city. <br />In FY 2008, the Police Commission will: <br />Provide a forum for community dialogue on current issues in law enforcement, to include: <br />The ICMA assessment of the department’sprogress in meetingthe recommendations <br />contained in the 2005 ICMA/PERF report and in implementing the strategic plan initiatives <br />Internal Affairs case summaries and annual complaint handling statistics <br />Patrol in-car video system project evaluation <br />Progress towards implementation of the civilian oversight system through periodic status <br />updates from the police auditor and the Civilian Review Board member liaison, and review <br />of the first annual Police Auditor’s report <br />Through open meetings and public forums: <br />Provide opportunities for input and seek new avenues for public involvement on a variety <br />of policing and community safety issues <br />Solicit public input on proposed policy recommendations and involve interested community <br />members in the decision-making process <br />Increase accessibility of police department staff to residents <br />Assist in informing the public on standard police practices and new procedures to increase <br />the transparency of police operations to residents <br />OUTCOME 2. Identify police policy and resource issues related to preferred policing alternatives. <br />In FY 2008, the Police Commission will: <br />Develop interim recommendations to improve police response to domestic disturbances and <br />formulate options for future strategies for inclusion in the department’s comprehensive strategic <br />initiative to address family violence. <br />Determine best practices for police response to people in mental health crisis appropriate to our <br />community and specify the critical services needed in the mental health care system to support <br />improved police intervention strategies. <br />5- <br />Adopted July 12, 2007 - <br />
