Eugene Police Commission FY 2007 -2008 Work Plan Decrease misunderstandings regarding the nature of adopted police policies, OUTCOME 3. practices and approaches. In FY 2008, the Police Commission will: Assist the police department in a comprehensive review and update of its policy manual, ensuring that policies under modification that may be of particular community interest are vetted in a public meeting setting. Present the results of the commission’s analyses and recommendations to the community, using news releases, the web site, status reports to City Council, distribution of reports to stakeholders and participants, and other mechanisms as appropriate. Respond to emerging issues by schedule topic specific work sessions and requesting information updates from staff. Provide background information on oversight model design and other technical assistance to the Civilian Review Board to support a successful launch of its responsibilities. Network with other organizations and constituencies to increase collaboration and information sharing on topics of mutual interest. Provide input on police policies that reflect community values. OUTCOME 4. In FY 2008, the Police Commission will: Participate in drafting a Taser policy to be used during the pilot project and assist with the pilot evaluation of the pilot project results. Review and comment on revised police policies related to the intake, investigation and review of complaints against police employees. Assist the department in updating its existing use of force policies for consistency with contemporary professional standards and community values. Monitor the application of policies that werepreviously amended by the commission through annual reports and/or information requests to staff.
