These <br />recommendations stress the need to increase residential densities and to Locate places of <br />employment and residences in proximity to one another...,tc} Medium- and high-density <br />residential development shall be encouraged within ane-half mile of transit transfer stations. <br />(d} Existing employment centers shall be encouraged to grow and diversify by allowing and <br />concentrating new commercial, governmental, and fight industrial uses, where appropriate, in <br />those centers. (e}Medium- and high-density residential development shall be encouraged within <br />one-half mile of existing and future employment centers, where appropriate, such centers shall <br />include urban public transit transfer stations. ~f} Development and redevelopment shall be <br />encouraged in designated areas which are relatively well served by the existing or planned <br />urban public transit system. (g} An active program to develop pedestrian pathways; e.g,, <br />sidewalks shall be encouraged, especially in proximity to major activity centers or in <br />conjunction with other modes of travel. <br />Findings: <br />~~ Undeveloped and underdeveloped land east of Game Farm Road South is designated <br />and zoned MDR, consistent with Metro Plan designation criteria for locating medium <br />and high density residential development in proximity to transit stations done is located <br />in the Gateway Mall developments and to existing and future employment centers. <br />Z} Transportation Policies 6.0, 7.0, 9.0, ~ 3.0, and Z3.4 provide for the development of <br />bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities in newly developing areas, and for provision <br />of pedestrian and bike facilities through developed areas in conjunction with road <br />improvement projects. <br />Policy i(i-F•fi i3}: Local governments and the Lane Transit District shall cooperate in the timely <br />identification and acquisition of transit stations in newly developed areas. <br />9 <br />
