Mr. Klein vvas somewhat concerned <br />about the reference to the Police Commission report, hut suggested to counter that, the Cit.y could provide <br />infonnatlon in its materials about \vhere to secure infonnation, pro and con, about the measure.~vIs. <br />Solornon thought that was bir if the City was tndy trying t() be neutral. <br /> <br />Mr. Kelly expressed concern about providing inforrnati'Jn pointing people to sources of non.neutral <br />advice, pro or con, in a factual rnaiJing. He prefcrred to drop the reterence to the commiSSlClJl report [ather <br />than reference ini<mnation from the proponents or opponcnts of the measure. <br /> <br />Mr. Kkin said it \vas 1m opinion that the City could not make copies of the Police (~onunission report and <br />distribute them because the rep~)rt was not neutral information. <br /> <br />~v1r. Kelly offered a friendly amendment, accepted. by the maker and second to the motion, to drop the <br />reference in the motion to the Web address and access to the Police Commission report. <br /> <br />Responding to a question il-om Mr. Pape, Ms. \Valston said the City \vould contr(Jct for the printing and <br />might have to seek more than was allocated in the motion.I\tr.Papc asked what the total was vvhen <br />combined with the funding adopted on August B. fYh \ValstoH estimated around $25,000. ~fr. Pape did <br />not suppori the amount being pwposed. <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy expressed support for thc motion because she thought it irnportant the public received t.he <br />information in a timety manner. <br /> <br />The motion passed, 5:3; Ms, S010mnn, Mr. Poling, and T'v1r. Pape voting no, <br /> <br />Ms. Bdtman, seconded by Ms. Ortiz, moved to direct the City lvlanager to expedite the <br />pnxluc!.lon of the Voters' Parnphlet to guarantee that it was mailed by (ktober 17 befGre <br />the ballots \vere mailed. <br /> <br />Ms. HeUman noted that the h,ueline fl.)r getting the pamphlet out was longer than typical, and it had <br />become dear that many voters w()uJd have their baUots and \'iould be able to cast their votes bdixe they <br />received all the information. She thanked ~'1s. Walston t()r her aSSIstance in developing the motion. <br /> <br />J'vls, Ortiz asked about the cost of the effort.
