<br />October 31 ~ 2005 <br /> <br />City Councilors <br />Mayor Kitty Piercy <br />City of Eugene <br />777 Pearl Street <br />Eu~ene, Oregon 97401 <br /> <br />To Mayor Piercy and Councilors: <br /> <br />This letter concerns the Land Use Code and Zoning Map Amendments to be considered <br />at the publie hearing seheduled for Monday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m.l regret that a <br />prior cOffuniweflt prevents me from offeri-.n8 my testimony in person. <br /> <br />In 1999, I sold my house in South Eugene and moved to my current residence at 836 <br />Taylor Street. I was drawn by the beauty of the neighborhood, with its stately trees and <br />mix of homes and residents. I soon discovered that this is a very stable neighborhood. <br />Many of my neighbors have lived here since the 1950s. and some even go back to the <br />1940s. At the same time it's a very open and welcoming neighborhood- <br />multigenerational and diverse. <br /> <br />This is a very convenient location. My husband and I bike and walk almost everywhere. <br />When our car lease expired, we decided not to buy a new car. Instead~ we share a car with <br />a neighbor. This sensible and economical arrangement has worked out satisfactorily for <br />both parties for more than two years. <br /> <br />In other words-my experience represents exaetly what is envisioned for Eugene: a <br />liveable. walkable downtown neighborhood. I believe that all of this is compatible with <br />increased density.
