Ms. Wilson, responding to a comment from Ms. Taylor, noted that the 2009 legislative session was expected
to be completed by the end of June.
Ms. Piercy asked if there had been any legislative committee discussions regarding the current state of
funding for public safety concerns. Ms. Wilson answered that there was no current legislative discussion
related to that particular issue, and further noted that Governor Kulongoski’s proposed budget actually cut
into public safety funding.
Ms. Piercy noted that Lane County commissioner Faye Stewart was heading up a task force to examine
public safety and human services funding issues and suggest possible improvements regarding those issues
to the state legislature.
Ms. Piercy, Ms. Wilson, and the CCIGR members discussed the various public safety concerns affecting the
City of Eugene and Lane County, with emphasis on how the state legislature and coordinators might address
such problems in the upcoming legislative session.
Ms. Wilson noted that while she would not ordinarily bring those bills before the CCIGR that dealt with
services not provided by the City of Eugene, based on their comments she would plan to bring any bills
directly related to public safety concerns before the CCIGR.
Ms. Taylor adjourned the meeting at 2:39 p.m.
(Recorded by Wade Hicks)

MINUTES— Council Committee on Intergovernmental December 3, 2008 Page 6
Relations
