This alternative provides the following advantages: · Increases bioreactor capacity by increasing the mixed liquor concentration · Modifications can be constructed within the existing infrastructure footprint · Process reduces loading to the secondary clarifiers · Improves sludge settleability and provides for its control · Will provide consistent and complete nitrification · Provides process flexibility for seasonal operation · Operation is more efficient and provides financial benefits In addition, alternative 1 is far more cost-effective and maximizes the use of existing facilities. 6.2.2 Secondary Clarification Enhancements As stated in section 6.2.1, the WPCF will need to increase its secondary treatment peak capacity to address the projected increase in wastewater flows and the ever-changing and more restrictive NPDES effluent limitations.
