8,645 Highway Oriented District. Areas in this district are usually <br />es~ gnate commune ty commercial or strip or street-oriented com- <br />merci al i n the Metropolitan Area General Plan, Signs i n this district are <br />oriented to automobiles traveling at higher speeds than those on local or <br />collector streets, Higher signs are allowed i n this district than i n mos t <br />others to make i t easier for persons driving cars i n this district to find <br />the businesses they seek. The following signs shall be permitted vn proper- <br />t~ es located w~ the n areas des gnated as "Highway Oriented District" on the <br />Sign District Map : <br />~a} All signs shall be located to comply with all yard and <br />special setback requirements of the zoning ordinance, <br />~ b} Each separate business occupancy may have one identity <br />sign located within the first 15 feet of the street property line, <br />and not mare than 30 feet total height above grade. Such sign <br />shat ] not exceed 100 square feet of surface area for any one face, <br />or 200 square feet of surface area for two or more faces. Such <br />sign shall be separate and not part of any other signs allowed an <br />the property, The identity sign may include within the surface <br />area permitted, the message "open," or "open 24 hours," in the case <br />of service station or restaurant occupancies, and the term "vacancy" <br />or "no vacancy" in the case of motels. <br />~ c } The total surface area of all other signs, including <br />billboards, on the property shat 1 not exceed three square feet for <br />each lineal foot of street frontage. None of these signs shall be <br />higher than 30 feet above grade, nor located less than 15 feet from <br />any street property line. <br />~d} The highway oriented district shall extend, unless other- <br />wi se shown on the Sign District Map, 200 feet from the center line <br />of the highway i t faces. <br />fie} Any business property within the highway oriented dis- <br />tri ct, but not having highway street frontage, may have identity <br />s~ gns only, Such s~ gns shall conform to either the highway on ent- <br />ed district regulations, or to the regulations of the nearest <br />adjacent sign district. <br />8.650 Industrial District. Areas i n this district are usually designated <br />7 ndustr~ a ~ n the Metropolitan Area General Plan. Businesses i n <br />this district often have m7 ni mal street frontage but they occupy large sites. <br />Thus the standards used i n the commercial sign districts are not adequate <br />for industrial signing. Ta account for these factors, one identity sign i s <br />al 1 owed for nisi bi l i ty from nearby highways and arterials, and additional <br />sign area is based on building perimeter rather than to street frontage. <br />The following signs shall be permitted on properties located within areas <br />designated as "Industrial District" on the Sign District Map: <br />~a} General, All signs shall be located to comply with all <br />yard and spec~a setback requirements of the zoning ordinance, <br />fib} Identity signs.
