gases are in contact with any valve or fitting, the
liquid flow rate shall be utilized for purposes of
computation. All flow rates indicated on the label
shall be converted to cubic feet per minute ~cfm~
of gas at normal temperature and pressure ~NTP~.
iv. Portable Tanks and C linders. For portable
tanks and cylinders, the maximum flaw rate of release
shall be calculated based on assuming the total re-
lease from the cylinder or tank within the time spe-
cified in Table 80.303-B. When portable tanks or
cylinders are equipped with approved excess flow or
reduced flaw valves, the worst case release will be
determined by the maximum achievable flow from the
valve as determined by the valve manufacturer or the
gas supplier. Reduced flow and excess flow valves
shall be permanently marked by the manufacturer to
indicate the maximum design flow rate. Such markings
shall indicate the flow rate far air under standard
conditions.
Table 80.303-B
RATE OF RELEASE FOR CYLINDERS AND PORTABLE TANKS
Non-Liquefied Liquefied
Container ~Minute,s~,__ Minutes
Cylinders 5 30
Portable tanks 40 240
7. Emergency Power. Emergency power shall be provided
in lieu of standby power for:
A. Exhaust ventilation, including the power supply
for treatment systems.
B. Gas detection systems.
C. Emergency a1 arm systems.
D. Temperature control systems.
8. Limit Controls. In addition to the limit controls
required in Section 80.3o1~t~, excess flow control shall be
provided for stationary tanks which are piped far filling or
dispensing.
9. Gas Detection. A continuaus gas detection system
shall be provided to detect the presence of gas at or below
the permissible exposure limit ~PEL~ or ceiling limit. Where
no PEL or ceiling limit exists, the appropriate Threshold limit
Value ~TLV} should be utilized instead. The detection system
shall initiate a local a1 arm and transmit a signal to a con-
stantly attended control station. The alarm shall be both
visua] and audible and shall be designed to provide warning
both inside and outside of the storage area. The audible
alarm shal 1 be distinct from al 1 other a1 arms .
EXCEPTION:
I. Signal transmission to a constantly attended
control station is not required when not more than
one cylinder is stored.
2.
