The gas detection system shall be capable of monitoring the roam or area in which the gas is stored at or below the per- missible exposure limit ~PEL} or ceiling limit for, if appli- cable, the Threshold Limit Value ~TLV}} and the discharge from the treatment system at or below one-half the IDLH limit. 14. Smoke Detection. An approved supervised smoke detec- tion system shall be provided in rooms or areas where highly toxic compressed gases are stared indoors. Activation of the detection system shat l sound a 1 ocal alarm. 11. Storage Cynd,itions. The number of cylinders contained in a single gas cab~~net shall not exceed three. EXCEPTION: Cabinets containing cylinders not exceed- ing one ~1} pound net contents each shall be limited to a maximum of 100 cylinders. fib} Exterior Storage. 1. General. Exterior storage of highly toxic compressed gases shall be in accordance with the provisions of this sub- section and the general provisions specified in Section H4.301. 2. When the storage area is located closer than 75 feet to a building, open- ings into a building other than piping shall not be per- mitted above the height of the top of the shielding structure yr within 5o feet horizontally from the storage area whether or not shielded by a protective structure. C. Air Intakes. The storage area shall not be per- mitted within 15 feet of any air intakes. 3. Cana ies. A. Portable tanks and cylinders stored outside of buildings shall be stored under a canopy of noncombustible construction. Such storage shall not be considered indoor storage. B. An automatic fire sprinkler system shall be pro- vided for canopies provided for the storage of highly toxic compressed gases. Ordinance - 36
