Automatic fire sprinkler systems shall have at <br />least one water supply of adequate pressure, ca acit and <br />rel i abi l i t. p y <br />y <br />~. Automatic fire sprinkler systems may be connected <br />to the domestic water supply main when approved b the chief <br />rovided the dames ' y <br />p tic water supply is of adequate pressure, <br />capacity and sizing far the combined domestic and fires rink- <br />ler re uirements, In su p <br />q, ch case, the fire sprinkler system <br />connection shall be made between the public water main or <br />meter and the building shutoff valve and there shall not be <br />intervening valves ar connections. The fire de artment con- <br />nections ma be o ' p <br />y mated when approved by the chief. <br />3. The sprinkler alarm valve for an autamatic fire <br />sprinkler system may be omitted when the sprinklers stem <br />serves less than si y <br />x heads or where the system is connected <br />to an.approved fire alarm system. <br />~~4} Section 10.308 of the Uniform Fire Code is amended to • <br />h add. <br />~ } Grou SR Occu ancies: <br />1. Division 1 Occu ancies, Partial autamatic s rinkler <br />system is re uired as s p <br />q pec~f~ed. <br />~a} Automatic sprinklers as specified in NFPA <br />Standard 13, 1980 edition, using standard pie sizin <br />and head s a ' p g <br />p c~ng in required locations shall be installed <br />~n the following areas: <br />~1} exit corridors; <br />~~} exit stairways; <br />~3} inside room entrance corridor} doors <br />or other openings which face on interior exit wa s. <br />Sin le-head i y <br />g ocat~on shall be na more than six and <br />no less than four feet inside doors except that when <br />side-wall sprinklers are used they sha] l be located <br />above the opening. <br />~4} any other points necessary to ensure the <br />protection of the exit way. <br />fib} A water supply shall be provided sufficient to <br />operate at 1 east five sprinkler heads si mul taneousiy for <br />a period of 20 minutes at a residual pressure of not <br />less than 15 pounds a square inch at the hi hest head in <br />the s stem ~ g <br />y Supply may or~g~nate from: <br />~1} domestic water supply; <br />~2} separate connections to public mains; <br />~3} on-site reservoirs or tanks, or <br />~4} wet standpipe lines. <br />~c} , Building fire-alarm systems shal l be connected <br />to a sprinkler system water-flow device. <br />~d} Systems shall be equipped with afire de art- <br />P <br />Ordinance - 9 <br />
