øÈÖØÏØíÎÑÔÚØúÎÐÐÔÊÊÔÎÏ <br />÷ä <br /> <br />æÎËÒíÑÜÏùËÜ×É <br /> <br />new committee identified at the May 2, 2009 Process Retreat will relate to the City of <br />FY11 budget and resources affecting the Police Department. <br /> <br /> Policy Screening and Review Committee (PSRC) <br /> The is designed as a multi-year effort to <br />assist the department in updating the police policy manual, utilizing the Lexipol structure as the <br />framework for a comprehensive policy review process. This committee was first organized in <br />FY08 but did not begin reviewing policies until FY09. In the past fiscal year, the committee <br />reviewed and made recommendations on several different topic-specific policies. In FY10 the <br />committee will continue its process of screening policies and making suggestions for revisions <br />as they see fit. <br /> <br />Public Outreach Committee <br /> The began mid-way through the last fiscal year and will continue <br />its work in FY10. This com-way educational opportunity <br />between the community and the Police Department on policy and resource issues. A public <br />outreach strategy was created to identify key projects to be completed this year. They include: <br />conducting a community feedback survey to learn what some of the key concerns the <br />community has with the department, and strengthen the relationship between the two entities; <br />design a Police Commission brochure to use at community events and aid in promoting the <br />work of the commission; and host outreach forums to better engage the public in the work of <br />the Police Commission. <br /> <br />Use of Force Committee <br /> The originally began in FY08 to assist the department with the <br />development of a Taser policy s pilot project. With the pilot project <br />complete, the committee will review the Taser policy again and recommend areas of <br />improvement to ensure the success of the tool. In FY09 the committee began the review of <br />other force-related policies. The remaining use of force policies to be reviewed by this <br />committee in FY10 are: <br /> <br /> Use of Force Reporting/Investigation <br /> Deadly Force Review <br /> OC Spray <br /> Carotid Restraint <br /> Shooting Policy <br /> Leg Restraint Device <br /> Officer-Involved Shooting <br /> Firearms <br /> <br /> <br />take place in FY10, but the is <br />recommendations on training, staffing levels, and other necessities for the department to <br />operate efficiently. This work relates to the discussions the commission held in FY09 on the <br />Magellan Staffing <br />budget proceedings were complete.
