Work Sessions and Information Items <br /> <br />Work sessions are scheduled periodically to provide opportunities for information sharing and <br />discussion of public safety issues that do not necessarily require Police Commission action. These <br />work sessions may involve presentations from Police Department staff, other City departments, or <br />other relevant agencies. The commission has limited the number of work sessions and information <br />items to those of highest priority to conserve meeting time and enable some flexibility to address <br />emerging issues. The following work sessions and information items are planned for FY10: <br /> <br /> Work session to review the Police Commission Bylaws <br /> Work session to establish a mentor program for new commission members <br /> Work session to better engage police officers with the commission/share expectations <br /> Information item on officer training (professional conduct and performance) <br /> Information item on the court system: Municipal Court, District Attorney, sentencing <br />practices <br /> Information item on the cost of issuing marijuana citations <br /> Tours of the Lane County Jail, Municipal Court, and others as identified <br /> <br />The commission intends to continue its review of quarterly strategic plan status reports from the <br />department and other related activities to stay informed of the organizational issues and strategies <br />underway. <br /> <br /> <br />C. Annual and Long-Term Projects <br /> <br />Every year the commission holds meetings with other City boards and commissions to stay informed <br />of current public safety issues and to partner with these groups on projects. These are organized in the <br />FY10 Work Plan as Annual and Long-Term Projects. They are: <br /> <br /> Joint meeting with the Human Rights Commission <br /> Joint meeting with the Civilian Review Board <br /> Police Auditor Annual Report presentation <br /> 2009 Internal Affairs Case Statistics presentation <br /> Hate Crimes Conference: multi-year planning with stakeholders for future event <br /> Ongoing training opportunities for commission members, where available <br /> Process session/work planning retreat <br /> <br />Procedural Objectives <br />Some specific procedural objectives for FY10 are to: <br />Support the leadership team with appropriate level of responsibilities <br /> <br />Maintain a highly qualified, dedicated and balanced membership <br /> <br />Identify opportunities for team-building to establish positive working relationships and <br /> <br />facilitate group cohesiveness (annual process retreat) <br />Police Commission FY10 Work Plan - 5 - <br /> <br />
