<br />ATTACHMENT B <br /> <br />Cultural Policy Review <br /> <br />Progress Report <br />July 2007- July 2009 <br /> <br /> <br />Implementation Team formed in fall 2007. Members: Tina Rinaldi, Alan Evans, Gretchen Hult Pierce, <br />Randall Stender, Mindy Linder, Kari Westlund, Rick William, and Fred Crafts. Staff: Renee Grube, Laura <br />Niles, and Theresa Sizemore. <br /> <br /> <br />GOAL 1 <br />To strengthen public and private sector engagement, leadership, and funding for arts and culture <br />in Eugene. <br /> <br />Strategy 1.1 – Priority 1 <br />Establish an “Alliance” for arts and culture that will coordinate and strengthen the efforts of the public, <br /> <br />private, and nonprofit cultural sectors and foster high-level civic leadership in support of arts and culture. <br /> <br /> <br />? <br />Researched nationwide for organizations that focused on developing business and arts leadership <br />and funding. <br /> <br />? <br />Hosted a speaking luncheon for George Thorn and Virginia Willard from the Portland organization <br />Northwest Business for Culture & the Arts that has been engaged in this work for 20 years. <br /> <br />? <br />Developed mission and vision for the “Alliance.” <br /> <br />? <br />Jon Ruiz, Royce Saltzman, James Bean, Jody Hall and Dave Hauser joined the Alliance Steering <br />Committee to create the “Founding Members of the Arts and Business Alliance”. <br /> <br />? <br />City of Eugene, Chamber of Commerce, Travel Lane County, U of O, and LCC agreed to take the <br />“Executive Leadership” role of the Alliance. <br /> <br />? <br />Developed working committees to engage more community members in work of the Alliance, i.e., <br />awareness. <br /> <br />? <br />Fall 2008 hosted the first Arts & Business Alliance of Eugene luncheon featuring speakers from the <br />arts and business sectors. <br /> <br />? <br />Developed a work plan and identified “Artsopolis”, an online calendar and social networking <br />product, as the top priority for the Alliance work plan. <br /> <br />? <br />Submitted a proposal to the Oregon Community Foundation requesting a grant of $100,000 over <br />three years to fund the purchase of Artsopolis. <br /> <br />? <br />Memo of Understanding between the City of Eugene, University of Oregon, LCC, Travel Lane <br />County and the Eugene Chamber of Commerce supporting the work of the alliance was signed July <br />29, 2009. <br /> <br />Strategy 1.2 – Priority 1 <br />Define a broader role for the City of Eugene relative to arts and culture and provide the necessary staff <br />and budgetary support. <br /> <br /> <br />? <br />Reorganized the Cultural Services Division to support the broader role the City has in facilitating <br />positive community activities that support economic development and community pride. <br /> <br />? <br />Established new relationships with community groups and individuals to support activities such as <br />Washburne Series, Concerts in the Parks, and Summer in the City. <br /> <br />? <br />Cultural Services Advisory Committee (CSAC) committed to engage in a broader overview of arts <br />and culture. <br /> <br />Strategy 1.3 – Priority 1 <br />Establish and fund a dedicated endowment or trust for Eugene’s cultural organizations to increase public <br />and private sector financial support for arts and culture. <br /> <br /> <br />Page 1 <br /> <br /> <br />
