ATTACHMENT A <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Work Session <br />McNutt Room – City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street—Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br /> December 16, 2009 <br /> 12:00 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Chris Pryor, Mike Clark, George Brown, Andrea Ortiz, Alan Zelenka, <br />Betty Taylor, Jennifer Solomon, George Poling <br /> <br />Ms. Piercy called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm <br />A. WORK SESSION – COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM <br />MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER <br />Ms. Piercy thanked Eugene Police Department (EPD) Chief Pete Kerns for his press conference earlier <br />that morning to address property crime reduction strategies in the area. <br />Ms. Piercy wished everyone a safe and happy holiday season. <br />Ms. Piercy offered statements in support of the University of Oregon's football team. <br />Ms. Piercy mentioned that Sandy Halonen had recently retired from the Neighborhood Economic <br />Development Corporation (NEDCO) and congratulated her for her efforts to create housing opportunities <br />in the community as well as her ongoing work on local skate park planning. <br />Ms. Piercy noted she had attended a dinner in recognition of White Bird’s CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance <br />Helping Out on the Streets) program and its work to improve mental health treatment services in the <br />community. <br />Ms. Piercy noted recent events at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in recognition of International Human <br />Rights day on December 10, 2009. She noted a recent "cutting carbs" community workshop sponsored by <br />the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to discuss carbon emission reduction strategies. <br />Ms. Piercy noted she had recently spoken at the Network Charter School as part of its ongoing discussion <br />series on how to be a good neighbor. She commented that a groundbreaking ceremony for a new <br />veterinary facility for low-income community members on Highway 99 had taken place recently. <br />Ms. Piercy noted she would soon be traveling to Corvallis to collect on a wager with Mayor Charles <br />Tomlinson whereby he would wear an Oregon Ducks shirt at the next meeting of the Corvallis City <br />Council. She commented she would be participating in an EPD ride-along on December 17, 2009. <br />Mr. Clark congratulated the Sheldon High School and Marist Catholic High School football teams for <br />their recent victories.
