Mr. Clark reported he had recently met with Mr. Zelenka and Police Auditor Mark Gissiner as part of <br />their ongoing supervisory duties. He noted he had made a presentation to the Eugene Chamber of <br />Commerce's Local Government Affairs Council (LCAC) on December 4, regarding the City's downtown <br />parking strategies. <br />Mr. Clark commented on his attendance at the Joint Elected Officials and the Beltline Steering Committee <br />meetings on December 7. He believed the Beltline Steering Committee was drawing closer to potential <br />solutions to development challenges being faced in the Beltline/Delta Highway area. He encouraged the <br />Council members to visit the ODOT website for further information in that regard. <br />Mr. Clark stated he had recently met with Kidsports Executive Director Bev Smith on December 10 to <br />discuss a range of issues affecting both their organization and children in the community. He noted he <br />had attended the Police Commission meeting on December 10, and noted there had been very productive <br />discussions on a number of issues. He noted that the Police Commission’s work plan appeared to be <br />proceeding on schedule. <br />Mr. Pryor voiced his appreciation for Chief Kerns’ recent press conference and his corresponding efforts <br />to address property crime in the community. He felt Chief Kerns work on the matter had been proactive <br />and represented an important step forward for the City. <br />Mr. Pryor noted he had attended the Housing Policy Board meeting and reported that the Community <br />Development Block Grant (CDBG) process to issue RFP's was on schedule. He noted he had attended <br />the recent Joint Elected Officials meeting regarding Fire/EMS services and believed that all parties <br />involved were methodically working toward a difficult solution to several challenges. <br />Mr. Pryor reported he would be serving as LCOG Chair beginning in January of 2010. He noted that City <br />of Coburg Mayor Judith Volta had been appointed as vice-chair of that group. <br />Ms. Taylor noted the recent productions of "White Christmas" staged by Actors Cabaret of Eugene and <br />the Oregon Festival of American Music. She reported that the City's committee on street assessments <br />consisting of herself, Mr. Brown and Ms. Solomon had recently met to discuss the strategies for that <br />group. <br />Ms. Ortiz noted her attendance at the most recent Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority (LRAPA) <br />meeting and hoped that that group would continue to work to improve its communication skills. She <br />noted that the City's Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) committee would meet later in the afternoon to <br />discuss legislative priorities for the next year. <br />Ms. Ortiz reported she had attended the recent International Human Rights Day festivities on December <br />10 and believed the events had been received positively by the community. She stated she had attended a <br />meeting of skate park representatives and noted that they were working in conjunction with the local <br />Rotary Club chapter as part of their fundraising efforts. <br />Ms. Ortiz noted she had recently participated in a community outreach event with Mayor Piercy at the <br />Grocery Outlet on River Road. She stated that City Manager Jon Ruiz had attended a recent meeting of <br />Trainsong neighborhood representatives. <br />Mr. Brown noted he had also attended the recent JEO meeting concerning the consolidation of the <br />Springfield and Eugene Fire/EMS departments and felt that while the financial benefits seemed <br />impressive there were still several important governance issues to discuss surrounding the matter. <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES—Eugene City Council December 16, 2009 Page 2 <br /> Work Session <br /> <br />
