Ms. Solomon arrived to the meeting at 12:14 p.m. <br />Mr. Brown noted he had attended a meeting of the McKenzie Watershed Council on December 10 and <br />reported on several recent developments regarding local water sources. He further maintained that the <br />McKenzie Watershed Council had been utilizing its funding very wisely. <br />Mr. Brown noted he had recently met with Lane Community College President Mary Spilde and had been <br />happy to learn that LCC had recently begun providing increased housing opportunities to its students. <br />Ms. Solomon reported her attendance at a recent Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission <br />where that group had provided updates on a number of its construction projects. Ms. Solomon noted that <br />many of those projects had come in under budget. <br />Mr. Poling noted he had attended a recent Travel Lane County Board of Directors meeting and reported <br />that May Kruger had been appointed to that group. He noted from that meeting that the Cuthbert <br />Amphitheater had been recognized by Pollstar magazine as one of the top 100 entertainment centers in the <br />world. <br />Mr. Poling commended the coaches and staff for the Sheldon High School and Marist Catholic High <br />School athletic teams for their recent accomplishments. <br />Mr. Zelenka commended Chief Kerns for his recent steps to address property crime in the community. <br />He maintained that the proposed consolidation of the Springfield and Eugene Fire/EMS departments <br />represented significant potential savings with regard to the eliminations of redundancies that might result <br />from such a strategy. <br />Mr. Zelenka noted he had recently attended the City's Climate and Energy Action Plan workshop sessions <br />and had also presented a report to the Metropolitan Policy Committee (MPC) regarding the same. <br />Mr. Poling anticipated that air travel on and around December 31 would be difficult due to the large <br />number of people who were expected to travel to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. <br />Ms. Ruiz noted that Seda Collier had received the City's Human Rights award for her contribution to local <br />transgender issues. He noted that Financial Analyst Lacey Risdal would be presenting information to the <br />council on the recent prosperity summit at a later council work session. <br />Mr. Ruiz noted his attendance at a recent Eugene Symphony performance. He noted that the Symphony <br />continued to be an extremely important part of the City's longstanding commitment to the arts. He noted <br />that January 8, 2010, would be Finance Director Dee Ann Raile's last day with the City. He commended <br />Ms. Raile for her many years of service to the organization and to the community at-large. <br />Ms. Taylor noted that the City Club of Eugene would be welcoming artists from the Eugene Opera’s <br />production of The Marriage of Figaro at their December 18 meeting. <br />Mr. Ruiz, responding to a question from Mr. Zelenka, noted that staff would present information from the <br />recent prosperity summit to the council at a later work session meeting. <br /> <br />B.
