The matter of filli~ tt~e vacancy in Council caused by tl~e death of A. N. Striker, Councilman fro~ the Fourth Ward, es~.~e up for consideration, and no~.ina- tions to fill the vacancy were declared in order. Counci]~aan Bean placed in nomination l~r. Jemes L. ~.~eyers. Council. an ~¥~cM~u, phey nominated ~,~r. J. P. Beytien. There bei~ no oti~er nominations same was declared closed and a ballot ordered and vote taken and counted, and resulted Meyers~3, Beytien 3. The vote was declared a tie, and tt~e Mayor east t~is deciding vote in favor of ~. I,'. Beytien, and he was declared elected. , ~'~ Ti~e Mayor announced the appointment of 0tlc I{endershott. as a member of t{ender snott ~ tt~e nig!~t police force, and a ~,otion was made and seconded that }~r. ' ' appointment be confirmed by the Council, and that he be placed on the regal!ar pay roll at ~'~ ~.00 per month; his warrants to be drawn at the time oti~er salary warrants are drayed. Ti~e ayes and nays were called; Councl~nen voting aye Hensil!, Koppe, Hc}{urphey, Doff, Bell and Bean, nay none, absent !. Motion was declared carried and so ordered. It appeari~M; that there is a vacancy in the fire department by reason of the appointment oF ~r. Hendershott to the police force, CounciLman Bell re- co~:~mended that H. D. Briggs be employed as a fireman, and moved ti~at he be ployed and placed upon the reg~lar monthly pay roll at a :~alary of ~:"'~5.00 per monti~; i~is warrants to be drav~n at the time other salary warrants are drawn.
