Present Councilmen Joimson, Parks, }.{eMurphey, Bogue, Bell, Devereaux and Goodpast~e; absent Beytien. ~ A petition from ~ general eo~,i~tee of the ~ene Coffee Club, ~gene Co~ereial Olub ~d Representative of Fo~tni~tly Club ~skl~ the Council to fur- nish free wate~ a~ li~s for the Coffee Olub was read, ~nd the subject was pre- sented by P~oC. DeCou, M~s. Laura ]{a~ls and othe~s. Petition was referred to tl~e I~inanee Cool,tee. The repo~t of the Health Officer was read mhd p!aeed on file. Repor~ of the Building ~nspector for September was re~d and referred to the Fiance ~o~it~ee. Reques$ of Counei~n Goodpast~e for three nonths' leave of absence was on motion ~anted. ~ The Fire & V~mte~ Co~tee ~eeo~ended t~t the Buil~ng ~nspeotor issue ~ permit to W. H. Fenton to m~e ~epmirs on building at eorne~ of Ninth Avenue ~nd Olive Stree~ for p~tent roofi~ ~nd corregmted iron, ~lso that he issue a permit to S. ~. Gou~ley to put new roof on g~llery ~$ ~7 - 10th Avenue V~es$, ~nd also repair ~oof on house ~t corne~ of Tenth Avenue ~nd Olive Street with p~tent roerig. 0n motion tko recommendation was adopted. ~Co~xei~a~M~u~phey~epo~ted that the Oon~ittee had ex~ned the re- mons$~anee against the paving of Alde~ Street f~om Ninth Avenue to the Hillrace and found that it contained ~ majority of the front footage ~1o~ the street, and moved t~t the remonstrance be over,led and the 0rdin~nce for said improve- men~ reconsidered. Motion was seconded ~nd co, tied. THe Ordinance to improve Alde~ Stree~ f~om south liue of Ninth Avenue ~st to the Millrace bei~ Ordinance No. 16~ was the~pon ~ead ~nd passed its second mhd t~rd readings by title ~de~ suspension of the ~le mhd was declared upon its final pass,ge. Councl~en voting ~ye 6, n~y Bo~e, absent Beytien. It was declared the Ordinance was emrried by mor~ th~n two-thirds vote of the 0ouncil. The O~dln~nee ~0~ing and approving the plan~ and sp~eoifieations of the Oity ~ineer fo~ ~he improvement of Alde~ S$~ee~ from South line of Ninth Avenue Eas$ to ~he Millrace bei~ Ordin~ee No. 1616 was thereupon ~emd and passed its second e~nd ~rd ~.eadings by $itle unde~ suspension of the rUle and was declared upon i~s final passage.
