JANU_~ 31_, 1916. <br /> <br /> Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon, January 31, 1916, <br /> <br /> Council met pursuant to adjournment of January 2Wtl~, and was called to <br />order by Mayor Bell. Present Councilmen Parks, Polders, Koppe, Peterson, <br />I~tosher, Goodpasture and Quimby; absent Devereaux. <br /> <br /> The recommendation of the Finance Committee to reject the proposition <br />submitted by the City Treasurer to bond the City for $50,000 for delinquent <br />street and sewer warrants, leaving the matter to be cared for under tile Bancroft <br />Act was read and on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> Report of the Sewer Committee recommending the cancellation of assess- <br />ments against lots l, 2, 3 and ~ in Block 23, on account of High Street sewer, <br />and recommending the cancellation o~ assessment against hot i in Block 2, Ells- <br />worth's Addition against George W. Kinsey was on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> Request of John M. Pipes, former City Attorney, to be ~llowed to collect <br />cost fees amounting to about $120 from Defendant in ornamental lamp post case and <br />retain same was referred to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney. <br /> <br />An affidavit of Dora E. Vtallaee presented as ~ claim to the City for the <br />sum of $7,500 on account of the d~ath of her husband, an employee at the City Park, <br />was referred to the Judiciary gow~ittee and City Attorney. <br /> <br /> The recommendation of the Street Committee that the petition for ornamen- <br />tal lights on Seventh Avenue from Olive Street ~to High Stre'et be Wr~nted was re~d <br />~nd on motion adopted, and an 0rdin~nce providing for the construction and erect- <br />ion of an orno~aental street lighting system on both sides of Seventh Avenue from <br />Olive Street to Hi~h Street and to assess the cost thereof against property <br />~butting said Street between s~id points was re~d ~nd laid over; and a Resolution <br />instructing the Recorder to publish a notice that s~id Ordinance will be 'consid- <br />ered for passage on the 1Wth day of February, 1916, at ~:30 o'clock P. N. and <br />that objections will be heard at said time was read and .on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> The recommendation of the Street Committee that the petition fop ornamen- <br />tal street lights on Eighth Avenue from Willamette Street to Pearl. Street be <br />granted was on motion adopted, and an Ordinance providing for the construction <br />and erection of an ornamental street lighting system on both sides of Eighth <br />Avenue East from Willamette ~street to PearI Street and to assess the Cost thereof <br />against property abutting said street between said points was read 'and laid over; <br />and a Resolution directing the Recorder to publish ~ notice that on the 1Wth day <br />of February, 1916 ~t ~:30 o'clock P. M. said Ordinance will be considered by the <br />Council and that objections of property owners will be heard at that time was <br /> <br />on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
