On motion, such recommendation was approved. <br /> <br /> W.C. Stead appeared and asked to have an alley landing constructed in connec- <br />tion with th$ paving of Van Buren Street between 10th and llth Aves., at which <br />point the city own~ .only half of the alley, the Street Committee agreed to see <br />if such landing can be built at this time. <br /> <br /> L.P. Harmon submi.tt~d a bid of.60 a cubic yard for further excavating.in <br />the Amazon, and A.C.Mathews submitted a bid of .85 per cubic yard for such work. <br />No action was taken. <br /> <br /> L.P. garmon asked for an extension of time in which 'to complete work on grad- <br />lng streets in Victoria ~eights. He was granted an extension of twenty days. <br /> <br /> The City Fngineer reported sidewalk le~dings are needed at places n~ar the <br />High School Building and that walks are needed on the east side of CoDlmbia <br />Street from the Railway Co. Right .of.way to 13th.Avenue. <br /> <br /> Ashbel L Smith filed a protest fq'r his assessment of $50.00 as a benefit for <br />opening 9th Avenue West for reasons therein stated. The matter was discussed, <br />but no aot lon taken. <br /> <br /> The following ,resolution was offered, and on motion, unanimously adopted: <br /> <br /> R E S 0 L U T [ O N. <br /> RESOLVt~ that .the contract with Haynes Bros. for the improvement of Taylor <br />Street between 9th ~nd 10th Avenues in Eugene,Oregon be rescinded and an allowance <br />made to Haynes Bros. for the sum paid flor .their bond for such street improvement, <br />Haynes Bros. being present and c.)neuring. <br /> <br /> That the assessments of $350.00 as a damage and of $300.00 as a benefit for <br />the opening of 10th Avenue from Monroe to Almaden Streets, and the benefit assess- <br />ment of $200.00 for the opening of ~th Avenue from Monroe to Almaden Streets <br />which was assessed against the property of Amelia Aya, the difference between <br />the benefits and damages ofwhlch was cancelled in consld, eratlon of thelmprove$ <br />mnt of said Taylar Street between 9th andlDth Avenues, is ordere(i re-instated. <br /> <br />On motion council ezl]ourned.. <br /> <br />Geo,.
