Council Chambers, Eugene,Oregon. <br /> November 8th, 1926. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular monthly meeting' of the Common Co~meil held at 7;30 <br />o'clock P.M.. on November 8th, 1926. There were present Mayor E.U. Lee and all <br />members of the Council. M, eeting cai. led to order by the.Mayor at 7;30 o'clock <br />P.M..,w Minutes of the meetings cf October 11 ~ h and 0.etcher 25th, 1926, read. and <br />approved with one correction as to the Nlnutes of October 25th, 1926. <br /> <br /> A petition was received from residents on Birch Lane .to retain that ~ame <br /> for such street rather than change it to "Birch Avenue" and it was also petition- <br /> ed the .street signs read "Birch Lane" lnstaad of "Birch Avenue" as now printed. <br />On motion such petition 'was gran.ted. <br /> <br /> A petition was reeelved asking the storm sewer now ending in the block lm- <br />mediately wast of Agate Street be continued for reasons therein stated. No actlor. <br />was taken on account of the c lty ~ontemplatlng additional sewer facilities in <br />that section. <br /> <br /> A petition was received for s!d.ewalks bet.we~n 23rd and 25th Avenu,es on <br />Potter Street. Said petition was on motion, granted, the walks, te be built when <br />the opening of such street is completed. <br /> <br /> The Board of Viewers r.eported on the ~P~filng ,of Potter Street from 23rd to <br />25th Avenues, and filed their report. The same was dlsc~sed, and ordered back <br />to such viewers for a new report to embody the wishes of the co,moil as to certaiz <br />features, , . <br /> <br /> A resolution was offered to extend the sewer on Madison Street from 14th to <br />l~th Avenues. On motion said matter was referred to the Sewer Committee. <br /> <br /> C.A. Horton submitted a bid of $687.50 to audl'5 the city books fr,~n january <br />1 1925, to December J1,1926. Such matter was referred ~o the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> M.B. Tallaferro appeared and made a claim of $15.75 as the price he paid for <br />having a sewer cleaned of tree roots, which stopped the Flow of his sewage, he <br />claiming it was at a point where the city exe~eis~s .Jurisdiction. On motion such <br />matter was referred to the Sewer Committee. <br /> <br /> Chairman McCully reported the Dunn Tire Shop had made appll ~ation to him for <br />the construction of a frame building on Olive Street between 9th and loth .Aves., <br />which is in the ~ire Limits. After discussion such application was, on motion, <br />rejected. <br /> <br /> CounclL~man McCully spoke on the necessity el~ confining parking to one side <br />only on Aider Street on accent of such street having such narrow pavement. The <br />matter of widening the pavement ,on such street was also discussed. No action <br />was taken. <br /> <br /> Chairman MCully also stated we have no fire hydrants on hand and recommended <br />we get competatlve bl~]s f~r our next supply. No action was taken. <br /> <br /> Chairman McCully stated one of our fire trucks was called to Springfi~:~ at a~ <br />recent fire and stated that city wishes to pay for its use. It was decided no <br />charge should be made. ~ <br /> <br /> Chairman McJully stated Chief Nusbaum is asking for new fire suits for his - <br />men. It was decided to check up on the matter before purchasing. <br /> <br /> Chairman Large reported on the claim of ALma Cannon Mlll~er in which she ha9 <br />asked the city ,~o waive the interest on certain stre,~t assessments and she to <br />pay the principal, and this on aceout of her not being consulted before such <br />street work was performed, and he recommended such claim be denied. On motion <br />such recommendation was adopted. <br /> <br /> Chalrmsn Wlllismson of the sewer Committee requested $90,000.00 of the recent <br />sewer issue of bonds be sold and an Ordinance was prepared for that purpose. <br /> <br /> The matter of traffic was discussed and particularly as to "stop streets". <br />No action was taken. <br /> <br /> Counollms~u Wa~hburne stated a light is badly needed at the corner of 19th <br />Avenue and Nilyard Streets. THe matter was discussed, but no action taken. <br /> <br /> Councilman Rugh recommended Joe Burns, Lloyd ~urkey and Julian Strait be <br />Placed on the payroll, s~ald matter was referred to the Police Committee. <br /> <br /> <br />
