Meeting qalled to order by the Mayor. <br /> <br /> The Street Committee reco~nended the asphalt plant be .rented to the E1Agene Sand <br />and gravel Co. at such times as the city is not using it on the following terms: / <br />It ~ pay $20.00 per day for use of,plant, to pay retail pr lee for asphalt, to hire <br />the ~gineer of such plant to operate it and pay hhn for services, the city to <br />Cuba!eh fuel. 0n motion -~uoh reommendation was ~pppoved. <br /> <br /> The Railroad Celebration Committee ask~i that it be granted consessions From the <br />~lty for all amusements on streets or otherwise granted by the city, during the days <br />of such ~elebration,' Such request was granted. <br /> <br /> A petition was received to pave Almaden Street between llth a~d 12th Avenues <br />28 feet ;vide with hard surface concrete. Such matter was referral to the Street <br />mlttee. <br /> <br /> A petition wa~ received from residents thereom'to change the name of Kincaid <br />Ave. to "Sylvan Drive"' as first choice or to "Collins Drive" as second choice. A <br />co~mnunication was also received from Webster L. Kinoaid as to such matter. On mo- <br />t lea it was voted to eh~ge the name of such street to Sylvan Street. <br /> <br /> An alleged personal injury to H. J. Manley charged to be due to the negligence <br />of the city of the exchange of properties in connection with the Opening of Van <br />Bursa St. was presented and dlxcussed. Such matter was referred to the Finance <br />Co~mittee and City Attorney. <br /> <br /> A letter was read from Ed. 2. Averil~, State G~e Warden, relative to the dump- <br />lng of the sewage of the city into the \¥11[smette Nlver, The matter was discussed <br />but no action.taken. <br /> <br /> The Recorder presented several tax statements sent the city for taxes due on <br />property the city has acquired. The same was ordered paid. <br /> <br /> The estimate of Stien Bros for 92627.05 for the contract price for improving <br />Van Buren Street from 3rd Ave. to Blair Blvd., was presented and ordered paid. <br /> <br /> Several students from the U of 0 appeared and asked that Franklin Blvd. at ,'.9th <br />and l~th Aves, and at ~l~erald St. and Kincald St. at llth Ave. be closed ]~riday May <br />7, 1926, during the t~F~e of the Cane~i~ete. The request was granted on condition <br />the students police such points aS all times and leave the streets open for fire <br />trucks in case of fires. <br /> <br /> The Street Connnittee recom~nended the bid of Earl McNutt for /$10,010.00 for <br />grading Victoria Heig!{t,~ be accepted. On MOtiOn tutti report was adopted. <br /> <br /> It was ordered that Birch Lane be again advertised for bids for grading, owing <br />to the fact there were no bids when formerly advertised. <br /> <br /> C. A. McClain of the Water Board spoke on the need of the city for more money to <br />be used for water main extensions. <br /> <br /> An Ordinance levying assessments fOr paving tbs alleys running north and south <br />and east and west between loth and llth Avenues, and Willamette and Olive Sts, was <br />read the first time and laid over. <br /> <br /> 2ourteen sidewalk imporvement ordinances were read the first time and passed <br />their second and third readings by title by unanimous consent unier suspension of the <br />rule 'and were placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all pre- <br />sent voting aye. Nay None.
