Ensure than development occurring within river and waterway <br />corridors is responsive to and provides protection of these <br />valuable natural assets. <br />3. Encourage, where appropriate and in keeping with Greenway goals, <br />development that respects the quality of rivers and waterways, <br />and provides a variety of opportunities for enjoyment of those <br />resources by the public., <br />4. Encourage coordinated water planni and the development of the <br />area's waterways, where appropriate as part of the area's open <br />space and park system . <br />Pnliripq <br />1. Periodical .local governments shall review Greenway boundaries, <br />uses, and potential acquisition areas to ensure continued com- <br />pliance with -st ate and local Greenway goals, <br />2. Land use regulations and acquisition programs along r i v.er corri- <br />dors and waterways shall take into account all the concerns and <br />needs of the community - i n c l u d i n g recreation, resource, and w i l d - <br />l i f e protection, enhancement of river corridor and waterway <br />environments, potential for supporting non automob i l e tr an.spor- <br />_tat ion , opportunities for residential development, and other <br />compatible uses. <br />3. Eugene, Spr i ngf i.el d , and Lane County shall continue to cooper ate <br />in expanding water related parks and other facilities, where <br />appropr that allow access to and enjoyment of river and <br />waterway corr <br />4. Lane County, Springfield, and Eugene shall continue to participate <br />in efforts to determine the fe as i b i l- i ty of an urban canal that <br />would connect Eugen historic Millrace to Amazon Creek. Like- <br />wise, Spr i ngf i el d' s efforts to improve the scenic quality of its <br />Mill -race should be encouraged . <br />5. New development that locates al ong river corridors and waterways <br />shall be limited to uses that are compatible with the natural, <br />scenic, and environmental qualities of those water features. <br />5. New industrial development that locates along the Will amette , <br />Is <br />and McKenzie Ri v -ers shall enhance natural, scenic, and environ- <br />mental qualities. <br />III -D -4 <br />
