Commercial, residential and recreational land uses shall be <br />integrated to the greatest extent possible, balance with all <br />planning policies, to reduce travel distances, optimize reuse of <br />waste heat, and optimize potential on --site energy generation. <br />g. Encourage industrial activities that use the smallest relative <br />amounts of nonrenewable energy. <br />lo. Support efforts to develop industries that have a relatively high <br />potential for utilizing renewable energy sources or waste heat % <br />11. Encourage the use and development of cogenerat i ve and . decentral i zed <br />energy supplies for commercial and industrial purposes in an <br />environmentally beneficial manner. <br />12. When practical, the government sector should take the lead in <br />- demonstrating and implementing <br />a.- Cost effective use of renewable and decentralized energy <br />sources such as solar space and water heating systems. <br />b. Selection and efficient use of energy saving vehicles. <br />13. Continue and encourage cooperation and commun i c at.i on between <br />citizens, utilities and local, state and federal governmental <br />entities concerning energy -- related issues. <br />14. Encourage efforts at the state level to promote .ener.gy_ conser- <br />vation, such as in the statewide building code, utilize renewable <br />sources of energy, and develop equitable energy allocation systems . <br />III-J-6 <br />
