must request leave in advance and obtain authorization to take unpaid leave for that
period of time.
City Vehicles
The use of a motor vehicle is a part of many City operations. The City's self-insured
automobile liability coverage applies only when City vehicles are used with permission,
and in the course and scope of your duties. This means the use of City vehicles for
private benefit will subject you to full personal liability in the event of any type of
accident. Family members or friends may not be transported in City vehicles. Drivers of
City vehicles are required to obey all traffic laws, including the requirement to wear seat
belts.
All City employees who are required to operate a vehicle are expected to maintain a good
driving record. All employees who operate City vehicles will be entered into the State of
Oregon Auto Flag System. The Auto Flag System generates a report anytime there is an
action taken on a license that is entered into the system. The Auto Flag System is
intended to make certain that employees who operate City vehicles have a valid and
correct classification of license for the vehicle they operate.
If you operate City vehicles and have a change in your operator's license status, you must
report that change to your supervisor immediately. If you lose your license or have the
incorrect classification of license, your supervisor will not allow you to operate City
vehicles. In the event this is a brief, temporary situation, you may be accommodated
within your present job or be temporarily reassigned. If the situation is long -term or
repeated, and you are required to drive the City vehicle as a part of your required duties,
you will be removed from the position. This could result in termination.
Cily Equipment
City equipment, facilities, supplies, and other property are to be used only for City
business and cannot be used for personal use either during or outside regular working
hours, except for occasional use of office equipment as defined by policy. The City
reserves the right to search or inspect City equipment or facilities, such as desks, files,
lockers, or offices, from time to time for work- related or administrative purposes. Abuse
or misuse of City equipment, facilities, supplies, or other property will be grounds for
disciplinary action.
Job Safety
City of Eugene employees have the right to expect a safe place in which to work, and
proper tools and equipment with which to do their jobs. The City is committed to
providing a safe workplace, safe equipment, proper materials, and to establish and insist
upon safe methods and practices at all times.
