Career <br />A successful program requires an organization -wide commitment that includes the efforts of <br />employees, supervisors, MM staff, unions, Career Development Contacts, managers, and <br />executives. Each group has a role and set of responsibilities that creates a learning environment <br />conducive to the success of the program. <br />Employees <br />Role Employees have the primary responsibility for <br />developing their goals and implementing their career <br />development plans. <br />Responsibilities Review guidelines for the CDAP and instructions for <br />completing a Career Development Plan. Complete the <br />Career Assessment Guide if unsure of career goals. For <br />assistance, contact HRRS/Recruitment & Selection staff <br />or the City's EAR <br />• Complete the Career Development Plan in cooperation <br />with supervisor. Obtain supervisor's signature and <br />forward original to BRRS/Recruitment & Selection. <br />staff. <br />• Review plan regularly and initiate steps to accomplish <br />goals. If applicable, pursue Career Development <br />Assignments that support career goals. <br />• Review and update plan with supervisor annually or at <br />time of performance evaluation. Forward updates to <br />HRRS/Recruitment & Selection staff. <br />• Document informal career development progress, <br />including skill building and training activities. <br />Employees may ask their supervisor to include the <br />information in their department personnel file. <br />(Mbooklet 11/99) 15 <br />
