Career
Regular Supervisor
Role Supervisors encourage employees to initiate Career
Development Plans and provide basic career development
assistance.
Responsibilities Work with BRR.S to create Career Development
Assignments as alternatives to regular job postings or
hiring of temporary employees. The Career
Development Assignment posting should clearly define
the duties to be performed and the minimum
qualifications required.
• Maintain an awareness of career development
resources and provide employees with appropriate
referrals.
• Assist employees with identification of career goals
and suggest resources for developing steps to achieve
goals. Meet with employees to discuss career
development plans. Sign plans as acknowledgment of
review.
Career development should be an element of every
employee's evaluation. Retain copies of Career
Development Plans and review plans with employees
annually or at time of performance evaluations.
Document informal career development progress,
including skill building and training activity.
• Consider employees' requests to apply for Career
Development Assignments. When feasible, approve
requests; provide written explanations when requests
are denied.
• Support the CDAP as a strategy for achieving
affirmative action goals.
(CDbooklet 11199) 16
