Policy Title: Independent Medical Evaluations (IME) <br />Purpose: To determine an employee's physical and /or metal capacity to safely <br />perform his /her assigned duties �IIoII . <br />Scope: Applies to all City employees; represented erri'O I should refer to the <br />proper labor agreement/contract. III, <br />Policy Statement: Whenever the law permits or t" _y tge ffl�' , ity `d te'rmines there <br />is a risk of incapacitation to the employee, co- workers, or ttie public asa result of the <br />employee's actions, that employee may be required toompleteamedical and /or <br />psychological examination. The purp�pse�of the examinaton is to determine the <br />employee's physical and /or mental 'apacit to perform assign d duties. <br />Policy Procedure: Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs) are used as a last resort <br />J4 e4 <br />when other avenues have been explpr d� When the use of an IME is considered, the <br />supervisor will first confer with Humarilfources and /or Risk Services before taking <br />action. When a reasonable basis is esta ed City may place an employee on <br />administrative leave with pay pending the �Fne of the evaluation. The City will bear <br />the cost of the ini valuation. <br />I'IIIIIIII <br />If the employee is f nd �II fit for assigned duties, the City may make reasonable <br />accommodations to ovi I ", l "duty assignments. <br />Medical and /or psychological records generated as a result of the IME are confidential <br />and will be handled in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws.
