MINUTES <br /> <br /> Mayor's Committee on Economic Development <br /> Bascom Room--Eugene Public Library <br /> <br /> April 5, 2004 <br /> 1 p.m. <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br /> <br />Committee: Jim Forbes, Chair; Tom Bowerman, Marcia Edwards, Bill Goldsmith, Don Kahle, <br /> Steve Korth, Michael Phinney, Gretchen Piere. e, Joshua Proudfoot, Marvin <br /> Re'Voal, Rusty Rexius, Jana Rygas, Kathy Smith, Ellen Teninty, Craig <br /> Wanicheck. <br /> <br />Staff: Planning and Development Director Tom Coyle; Ann Munroe, Planning and <br /> Development Department; Terry Moorfi, Anne Fifield, ECONorthwest. <br /> <br />Absent: Kartar Khalsa, committee member. <br /> <br />Welcome <br /> <br />Mr. Forbes called the meeting of the Mayor's Committee on Economic Development to order. <br />At his request, those present introduced themselves. <br /> <br />Mr. Coyle recognized Ms. Munroe for assembling the materials provided to the committee. <br /> <br />Mr. Moore reviewed the agenda. At the request of Ms. Pierce, he added an item regarding a <br />proposal Ms. Pierce and Mr. Kahle wished to offer the committee. <br /> <br />Presentations from Local Experts <br /> <br />Overview of the Economy <br /> <br /> 1. Oregon and Lane County: Conditions, Opportunities, and Constraints <br /> <br />Tom Potiowsky, State Economist, Oregon Office of Economic Analysis, provided a PowerPoint <br />presentation on current economic conditions, opportunities, and constraints in Oregon and Lane <br />County. Copies of the presentation were provided to members. Mr. Potiowsky noted the official <br />end of the recession and reviewed some leading economic indicators, which appeared to point to <br />improvement in general economic conditions in the United States.
