Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
While I think it would be hard for me to remember to always bring a bag, I think it would be worth
it, and I am in favor.
I don't have any problem banning plastic bags...
It's time to get rid of these bags. I don't understand the excuses people make for not having
reusable bags of their own. What can we do to encourage people's awareness?
Plastic bags, which are more energy-efficient than paper (thus contribute less to climate change),
should be allowed but they should not be provided for free. If plastic and paper bags were
required to cost $0.25 each, nearly everyone would bring a reusable bag. I much prefer an
approach like that.

This comment box is much too small. This survey is NOT well designed.
I think all plastic bags should be banned in Eugene. I think we should use our own reusable bags
for all our items purchased
If you make the stupid decision to ban plastic bags, I will start shopping in Springfield. This is NOT
something a majority of residents want. Sure, it might be what a vocal majority want, but try
listening to the rest of the city for a change. Like I said, if this assinine ban takes place, I will gladly
burn more gasoline to drive to Springfield for my grocery shopping.
I would prefer the plastic bag policy remain as is.
I agree with the ban on single use plastic bags.
Don't ban them. Tax them.
Many cities have banned plastic bags. It makes sense for Eugene to do so.
Thanks for the survey! It would be nice to ban them altogether.....
Government should focus on other more appropriate governmental topics.
Plastic bags are unnecessary. They fill landfills and litter our streets and the environment.
Additionally, the cost to retailers is then passed onto the consumer. Setting the standard of
bringing our own bags to the store, helps the environment while lifting consumer awareness. I
heartily support the ban! It's working elsewhere in Oregon, let's get on the bandwagon!
WE DON'T NEED THE NANNY STATE TELLING US WE MUST RECYCLE. REUSABLE BAGS
ARE UNSANITARY. WE NEED FEWER LAWS AND REGULATIONS, NOT MORE. WE ALSO
NEED TO GET RID OF ALSO THE GREENIES.
Let's do this! Let's be the change we want to see in the world!
People should have the option for plastic vs their own bags!! I use the bags for MANY things after
I get them.Even ones with small holes are useful. If they aren't available I'll have to purchase
plastic bags to line trash can, hold yard debris, carry drippy items, dispose of animal waste left in
my yard by others, etc.
I made my comments in number seven.
No response in the bubbles for answers.
Keep the plastic bags as a choice and charge a nickel for all bags used that aren't brought in to
the store by the customer. Plastic bags are needed for walking home with groceries.
Lets ban the plastic bag. There are better options that people would use if plastic bags weren't a
choice. They are also made from petroleum which is not a renewable resource, and they are very
toxic to manufacture.
I think even more effective than a "ban" would be a targeted educational campaign to businesses,
to train them to ask "Did you bring a reusable bag?" That peer pressure is very effective.
