Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I understand that co-mingled recycling promotes recycling. But when I see what some people put
out for recycling I'm discouraged. Items are dirty and the recyling bin becomes another garbage
can. Therefore, I save up my sorted recyclables and every two or three months take them to the
Glenwood transfer station.
Please ban these bags!! Thanks!
do not create a tax on store provided bags. We need something to take our purchases home with
even if we forgot our re-usable sack. that will just create resentment for something that used to
be free and the cost is already built into the price of the goods we buy.
If large cities can ban the use of plastic bags, our town can too.

Who wants to look at plastic bags caught up in tree branches?!!
When I lived in San Francisco they banned plastic grocery bags and I had to BUY plastic garbage
bags for dog poop scooping (I have large dogs & poop bags are too small). I also use these bags
as can liners at home and at work. Work on promoting other uses for these bags, once they are
home & continue to encourage those who are able to bring & use their own bags.I will continue to
use and reuse plastic bags, even if you ban them.
Plastic Bags are not the problem, nanny state government officials telling the population how to
live is the problem. Let people decide which they want to use plastic, paper or canvas bags. Some
times a plastic bag is just the item I want to use and sometimes a paper bag made from trees that
are grown specifically to use for paper products is my choice. Stop trying to tell me how to live,
stop trying to tell me if or how much sugar, salt, caffeine, oil, Trans-fat, soda I can consume. How
about I come over to your house and make all of your decisions for you since you are not smart
enough to live by your own decision making abilities.
P. bags are the greatest invention ever! Before banning, improve recycling options. Charge a
penny a bag for their use.
The only way I would realistically recycle plastic bags is if Sanipac had an option for recycling
them. I do not have time for a separate process.
I would love to see a ban on plastic bags. I take mine back to the store and turn them in for
recycling, but I know a lot of people do not. I would gladly welcome a ban in Eugene.
Eugene so often jumps on whatever cause is news-worthy to the expense of the actual citizens.
Pass the ban, we will all adjust and use our own bags, or pay for paper bags.
I fully support a ban on plastic bags within the City of Eugene. They create a huge amount of
trash and waste. As a leader in sustainability and green living, Eugene needs to make this
change.
Gert rid of plastic bags. Anyone can afford reusable bags ; most are only a dollar. I love the
Trader Joe colorful surfboard bags. Many people are lazy and don't care about the earth. I am
sick of picking up litter, including plastic bags that often end up in waterways and on the beach
and can lead of the death of wildlife. Get rid of the bags!
The stores could take off 5 cents for every bag of your own that you use off your bill, but your bag
must be filled to get the money back. .
Bio-degradable bags (like you can buy for dog clean-up) might help as I don't think everyone will
provide their own bags.
Plastic bags are a huge help to people like me who don't drive. Cars are screwing up the
environment more than plastic bags, and there are biodegradable options. People don't realize
how hard it is to grocery shop if you don't drive. A plastic bag ban will just make it that much more
difficult.
I always reuse the produce bags & carrier bags

until they're too soiled for cleaning. I may discard into my garbage stream then, especially if the
bag held meat.
