Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Kudos to you for exploring better options for us & the planet. :)
In January of 2011 the entire island of Maui banned the use of plastic bags. The Walmart provides
no bags whatsoever. No paper, no plastic. Guess what? The world didn't stop spinning,
customers didn't stop making purchases and everyone quickly adapted to paper bags or bringing
their own. The biggest reason people forget to take their own bags is simply they forgot to grab
the bags out of the car. If parking lots had reminder signs that would help a lot.

On the other hand, since the city says they don't have any money to spend on anything but
salaries and benefits I surely hope this 'survey' wasn't an expensive item to put together and that
you didn't contract with some outside entity to write up 8 questions.
I think people can adjust to not having plastic bags.
Ban the plastic bag!
I support the ban. It would help me become more responsible about bringing my own bag.
I am %100 in favor of the plastic bag ban. It is forward-thinking ideas like these that will preserve
our planet for future generations.
I believe that consumers should have a choice in which type of bag they would like to use. Those
who like reusable bags already do their part and those who prefer plastic bags to reuse at home
should be able to do so with the option of recycling them afterward.
All of my single-use carry out bags are reused to line waste receptacles in my home and are used
as containers for waste placed in these receptacles. If single-use bags are not available, I will
have to purchase bags to use as described above. In my case, there will be no net reduction of
the use of plastic bags for waste disposal by banning the use of single-use plastic bags by
retailers. I believe this is true in many households
Please, please, ban plastic grocery bags! But not the clear plastic produce bags. I use some of
them when I walk my dog and recycle the rest.
I greatly appreciate the integrity Eugene has for recycling. Thank you for asking my opinion!!! Best
wishes.
Get rid of the bags! There are too many careless people. The bags are unnecessary and other
options are available.
All of my single-use carry out bags are reused to line waste receptacles in my home and are used
as containers for waste placed in these receptacles. If single-use bags are not available, I will
have to purchase bags to use as described above. In my case, there will be no net reduction of
the use of plastic bags for waste disposal by banning the use of single-use plastic bags by
retailers. I believe this is true in many households.
The only place I know of to take the plastic bags for recycling is Albertsons on 18th.
I always use my plastic grocery bags. I never just throw them away. I would be lost with out
them, and would have to buy plastic bags if they are banned from our Fred Meyers, Bi mart, Etc.. I
am a senor on limited income, and cannot affort to buythe plastic bags.....
I am an elderly woman and the small plastic bags, when filled with groceries, are all the weight
that I can carry. The full recyclable bags are much too heavy unless I use a number of then.
I use my plastic bags every single day. I practically just used plastic bags to move from one
apartment to another - not boxes. The cloth bags cost money and require cleaning if something
should leak or break. The less cleaning I do, the more money I will have to buy groceries. The
plastic bags are my lunch bags everyday.

Also, I will most likely spend less money at groceries stores that don't have plastic bags because I
know I won't remember to have cloth bags with me. The stores will lose money because I will be
worrying about whether I have enough bags to carry all my food and stuff with.
