Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Please respect consumer's right to choose how they shop. I would rather have the choice to use
a single use plastic bag or my own reusable bags and not be dictated to by the government which
I should use. Aren't there more important things the government should be dealing with?
I work in a retail grocery store and am absolutely disgusted at how filthy the majority of the
reusable bags are. People want their meat in the same bags and it is a collection of germs! If
Eugene bans plastic bags, people really need to start cleaning their bags. It is truly disgusting!
I am tired of government telling us what we can and cannot do. Our freedom has been paid for in
blood and I plan on keeping mine. Government cannot tell us what we cannot do or what we can
or cannot have. It is unconstitutional to do otherwise. You should be more concerned about
creating jobs instead of worrying about other stuff. No body can get a job in this city or state for
that matter. Concentrate on the big things.
I use the bags to cleanup after my dogs when i walk them
1-ease of recycling encourages recycling.compost options need to be made available to
homeowners

2-banning plastic bags would make dog owners PAY for single use doggie poop bags and
therefore I think a total ban unreasonable
question 4 will only accept 1 answer
If there is a ban, I will shop elsewhere.

The City should not be telling me what kind of bags to use.
I think we need to focus more on educating people about recycling instead of banning them.
plastic bags are important when carrying things that end up with condensation or in the rainy
weather for those who are pedestrians or ride the bus or ride a bike. I seen a guy lose his gallon
of milk on the bus once because his paper bag broke from getting wet in the rain. I know quite a
few people who also use them for picking up after their pets. if you ban the plastic bags people
will either start shopping in other towns or be forced to buy small garbage bags which are thicker
and take longer to break down. I really think education is definitely the more cost-efficient method
of handling this.
I think the city needs to ban plastic bags! It will help with the landfills and the toxic waste that is
produced when they are made.
This seems to be another petty area the City is butting into when it has many other more
important issues to focus on. It is not the City's place to tell me how to live my life and take away
my choice as well as increase my grocery bill which is already skyrocketing while my wages are
constant!!!
I strongly support this ban.
Bags with big holes and tears I take back to retail stores for recycling. All others I use for trash
can liners, trash for cleaning out the car, yard debris, wet clothes after swimming or anything else
that comes to mind.

I am against banning plastic bags because I enjoy using plastic bags due to their versatility and
functionality. I have opted out of using reusable shopping bags due to the fact that they cam
inhibit bacteria and other diseases. There have already been sickness outbreaks linked to
reusable bags. I have seen many gross looking reusable bags walking through the grocery store
that it is hard not to wonder if there is a bacteria sitting on the loading tables at the checkouts.

My point is that I don't force you to use reusable bags, so don't force me to go without. Especially
when I do reuse my plastic single use bags. I know I am not alone on this.
I like having the option to have plastic bags. We always reuse them either for dog poop or general
use
Thanks for addressing this issue!
