Plastic bags are cheap and compact. I can order a bundle of 1000
that takes less space than 100 paper bags. As a consumer it's even worse. I use the bags to pick up after my
dog, but maybe that doesn't count as "recycling" even though he alternative is to buy plastic bags. Fix the
budget and quit wasting time and resources on telling people what to do.
The city needs to save money. Our business saves hundreds of companies and municipalities money. The city
of Eugene does not seem to want to engage a local company that can reduce their waste, environment
footprint and save money.
our customers overall would support this
Plastic bags should not be banned. Let consumer decide.
Dislike using plastic bags ... paper bags are problematic: 1) Not water proof 2) not strong 3) expensive 4) take
up lots of storage 5) cost more 6) cost more in freight charges (more deliveries because of storage problems)
I think a ban on plastic bags would be great. They are difficult to recycle and become an environmental
hazard. There are plenty of more responsible ways to carry purchases.
This ban will have an effect on our business, the plastic bags are commonly re-used by customers as trash
bags etc. It comes to question who is gaining from the ban? Re- use is the oldest form of recycling and is still
used today by many people. the replacement bag would likely be expensive to design and purchase for one
location, when our other locations can simply continue using the franchise standard bags.
We should be able to use plastic bags! Can't believe the council should even have the power to stop the use of
them! We are a farmers' market operation, not a big store. We shouldn't be included in any attempt to ban
plastic bags anyway.
I have researched this issue some and find the statements and science to be in opposition to the reasons
given to ban the bags. If you want to be kind to the environment for real, then this approach is somewhat
dishonest. Perhaps the city should ban all bags, paper or plastic. You should ban #6 plastic if you are really
concerned about the environment. Talk about negative impact! That plastic is not recyclable at this time and is
used as a single use throwaway hot food or drink or packing material. It has far more deleterious effect on the
environment.
We can't fund the animal shelter, the sheriff,or the schools, but when it comes to crap like this the City of
Eugene has all the money in the world to waste.
