Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
...but, I favor a ban on them so then we would not

need more recycling:)
If people could recycle them at home along with other items, perhaps more people would choose
to do so. However, the best option is to not have them at all.
There needs to be a way to recycle them along with the curbside recycling. I understand how
they clog the machinery, however, more of them would be recycled if people didn't have to take
them to the store of the recycling facility.
I think we need to make less single-use plastic carryout bags, not recycle more of them.
I think single-use plastic carryout bags should be legislated to be biodegradable only.
Recycling bins must include bags.
I think we should stop manufacturing them altogether.
If I have to drive miles to recycle (bags, cans, bottles) I probably would not recyle as much. I like
being able to go to my local grocery store (Albertsons & Safeway, etc) to redeem/recycle. The rest
goes in my container for Sanipac
I think they should be banned. Recently visited in Seattle where plastic bags are banned and
everyone is using reusable bags. Were given several months to adjust to the idea and to obtain
reusable bags.
People who want to recycle find a way to do it.
Given the certainty of Climate Change and the utter lack of leadership from out "leaders", I enjoy
throwing plastic into a land fill as a way of sequestering carbon back into the Earth's crust which
should not have been extracted in the first place.
was nice when they could be placed in the sanipac container
Why can't they go with the rest of recycled stuff left at the curb? It is stupid to have to go to a
special place to get rid of them
Please just ban them.
I believe that the very best option is "precycling"...not using single-use bags in the first place. In
the absence of that, people's home recycling service should offer that option in some manner.
It is very convenient to return plastic bags when I go shopping for groceries.
If we are to continue to allow wasteful plastic in the form of single-use plastic carry out bags then
it is VITAL that we at least provide the means to dull the harmful impact these bags will have on
our environment. The recycling options provided in Eugene are very minimal and hardly
publicized, and may result in a lot of thrown out plastic. However, putting funds towards
increasing recycling while not address the heart of the issue, the plastic bag consumption itself,
seems to me to be a band-aid for a bullet wound, not necessarily developing the change we need
to reduce our plastic pollution in this city.
Not just at stores but by the the garbage collectors as well.
I know local recycler complain about them clogging their equipment, but they went into that
business and there is products available to sort the material. In fact one on the larger local
manufacturer makes that equipment. We do not need to legislate a ban to solve their lack of
ability to make a business decision.
I think we need to stop using them.
Central/regional colection sites to gather and turn material into useful "items"; e.g., park/school
benches. This could: (a) reduce certain maintenance costs, thereby saving some tax money; or
(b) financially break even, yet result in a reduction in waste.
I'd like for the recycling companies that have home pickup to take and recycle plastic bags
They shouldn't be used at all. They are not necessary.
Better to phase out their use
wish I could recycle with the rest off my home recycling
