Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I believe we should follow Portland and now Corvallis and BAN plastic bags... other alternatives
for the majotiry population that uses them- WILL FIND ALTERNATIVE methods!!!
I think there are enough recycling options. The issue is training people to utilize them.
it WOULD be nice tho if they could be recycled in recycling bins from lane/apex w/other
recyclables if people have too many. i actually have to REMEMBER to LEAVE my reusable bags
in the car sometimes bcuz i am out of plastic bags at home. i have been using reusable
cloth/pleather bags since the mid '90's when whole foods started the trend. 'trendy' eugene is
never aware of how far behind the times they really are.
No. I just think they should "do away" because of the harm they have been proven to do to our
environment. This would force more people to purchase reusable bags.
convenience is important to a lot of people. They'll say they'll recycle by principle, but when it
comes down to it they'll only do what's easy. Make it easier to recycle plastic bags. PLEASE
DON'T BAN THEM!!!
Very few stores have readily available bins for recycling plastic bags
I think plastic bags should to OUTLAWED.
They should be banned.
More responsible people, not more options. There are numerous home uses for the bags they do
not need to be in a land fill.
Most larger stores (Fred Meyer, Alberstons, etc) already have places to recycle these bags.
Recycling by retailer would be easiest for consumers
I support providing recycling options, but much prefer to eliminate single use bags.
We are creating far too much trash which fills our disposal areas too quickly.
I think they just need to be banned
Acceptance by garbage collectors would be nice, even if sorted out from other mingled recycling.
I think they need to be banned like other cities have done.
If these plastic bags continue to be offered to customers (which isn't ideal), then having more
recycling options is certainly desirable.
I think that alot of people reuse them and that it not up to you to ban them. They are convient for
many people like me who can care many bags it the house at one time without making many trips
to the car. They are not bigger problem then disposable diaper etc.
Enough is enough
I don't know of any other options besides putting them in the trash or recycle bins.
If they are not banned, they should be recycled more often.
No. I think they should be banned.
It needs to be more obvious in grocery stores that you can recycle plastic bags, particularly the
stores that seems to default to plastic bags.
No, I use them as garbage bags!
If we use them, we should recycle them and keep them out of the landfill.
Deposit cannister/bin available inside stores that provide plastic carry-out bags.
If they are to continue to be circulated, they should be recycled in greater amounts. I would rather
they were not used at all, though
Just don't need them.
Not more recycling options but more info to the consumer that plastic bags can be recycled and/or
used for additional items besides the trip home from the retailer/grocery store.
Since most of us already have trained ourselves and our families to recycle at the home level the
likely hood to add bags is simple....just have to come up with a container or a burlap type bag.
