Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I use the plastic when I get drippy meats so my reuseable bags don't get blood in them. They
make good poop containers for dog walking adventures. Use them for lunch sack occasionaly
too. I could live without them for sure....I am all for doing away with them.
We double-bag and reuse PAPER grocery checkout bags about 50 times or more, until the
handles come off or they finally fall apart. (They're really quite sturdy.) However, many plastic
bags come into the house (from manufacturers, from food distributors, from the fish market, etc.)
that we have no idea what to do with. Often they claim to be recyclable, but they're obviously not
quite the same material as plastic grocery checkout bags. Must they go into the trash?

The butcher shop bags, same as grocery checkout bags, are currently recyclable. Would there
be fewer recycling sites if a ban goes into effect?
I really don't understand why more people don't use reusable bags.
Think about the financial strain on business owners to completely retool their customer packaging
systems if they rely on plastic bags for carryout
In today's busy world the task of locating and visiting recycle sites must be made easier than it
currently is.

Start with increasing their visibility: advertise recycle stations generally. Examples: put maps of
such services in utility-bill mailers (EWEB) and add posters to city trash collection containers and
municipal service locations, e.g., bus-stop shelters, etc.

Start a children's (school?) contest/program to reward those who can locate all the various
recyclers and accepted materials in the area.

More: City of Eugene could try requiring all mail advertisers to include recycling information/maps
with their advertising packets.
I think a ban on plastic bags is a good idea. Most stores have reusable bags you can purchase
cheaply and perhaps there could even be a way to recycle cloth bags so that if someone forgets
his or her bags, they could "borrow" bags and bring back next time t hey shop at a store.
With our current economic / financial depression dragging us under, what are you doing spending
pressious recources on bogus issues like this? Wouldn't it be better to focus on attracting
employers to this city?
If plastic bags are banned, I hope stores also charge a nominal amount for paper bags.
Let the market determine who wants to use or not use the bags. Although the city council won't
admit it the people that will be hurt by this are the lower economic level as they will be paying
more for paper bags. Remember, the environmentalists forced us to convert from paper bags to
plastic in the past. How many times can they change their mind and have us the consumer
continue to pay for their whims. Let the people decide by their actions.
Please ban single-use plastic bags.
People will get used to bringing their own bags. I think this ban is a great way to reduce waste!
Charging for bags at check-out makes good sense, and cutting back on use of anything not
recycled or able to be recycled!
PLEASE create the plastic bag ban here in Eugene.
We could live without the single use plastic bags
No Ban!
I think it is possible for almost everyone to purchase and use cloth bags
I strongly support a ban on single-use plastic bags in Eugene.
