Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Some might see eliminating single-use bags as a sacrifice, but it is a small one, and some
individual sacrifice for the public good is not a bad thing.
Relying on nonessential toxic products that will encumber the environment for hundreds or
thousands of years is the height of irresponsibility. Plastics should only be used when necessary
to achieve a compelling public interest. Single use plastic bags do net satisfy that test.
Plastic bags are a waste and should be banned for protection of the environment
Please get rid of plastic bags...and say no to coal trains, Baxter and toxic air. Is this a progressive
city or are we really having to discuss these topics. Get with the program city of Eugene.
Consumers should be allowed to choose. Maybe the city can promote education instead.
This is another example of the City council concerning itself with unimportant issues. They should
be focused on creating jobs and business growth in the City.
As a sweeping contractor, a vary high percentage of othe waste that we pick up in parking lots is
single use plastic bags (Walmart and Waremart in particular)
We're behind on this one -- should have enacted a ban on single-use plastic bags years ago.
I shop/do business in Eugene frequently so will be impacted by the law and have a strong interest
in this issue.
Single use plastic bags are not a problem. They take up insignificant space in the landfill and
there are new and exciting technology solutions that will lead to conversion of these bags in to
energy or other products. Where do you think the "re-usable" bags will go at the end of their short
life - yes, the landfill. You will create another problem by "solving" this one. Let technology catch
up and you will see significant and exciting solutions to thie perceived but not real problem.
Own commercial property in Eugene
Go to paper bags only and charge $.05 per bag. That will encourage people to bring their own
bag.
I am in favor of the plastic bag ban. If forced to and presented with reasonable options, I and other
consumers will adapt. Eugene needs to be a worldwide leader in green behavior.
it was the damn environmentalists that insisted that we quit using paper bags which killed
hundreds of oregon jobs and now they want to take away another choice of ours. Just like
Hussein Obama wants, DICTATORSHIP
This is a stupid issue....the bags are cheap and clean.
I think that the plastic bags should be banned. Even though I use them, it is only because it is
convenient. I will start taking my own shopping bags to the store from now on.
I hate plastic bags, I always get a paper bag when available. My wife uses reusable bags for
grocery shopping twice a month.
Thanks for the survey
Plastic bags should not be banned.
I am in favor of the ban.
The focus should be on recycling and not a ban. some products, chinese/asian take out food for
example, is best transported in a plastic bag. Also, certain chemicals and automotive products.
this will increase costs and reduce the practical benefits plastic bags bring to the consumer and
vendor.
Please provide more clarity to distinguish between the carry out bags and those that are used to
hold individual items, such as vegetables or bulk foods. What will the ordinance address?
Paper or cloth. No plastic.
I hope we ban plastic bags
If banned, I will have to buy plastic bag liners for waste baskets.
