These include
governmeni -owned or government-operated cultural
racilitics and instltutians, municipal arts agencies -anal
councils, private cuminunity arts organizations,
tlnint?orporated arts groups, living collections (such
as zoos, aquariums, and botanical gardens),
university presenters, atad arts programs that are
embedded under the umbrella of a rion - arts
organization or facility (such as a community center
or church). In short, if it displays the charncteristics
of n nonprofit arts and culture organization, it is
included. For- profit bu sinesses and individual ailisis
were excluded f um this study.
Nationally, detailed information was collected from
9,721 eligible oi ganlzatiuns about their fiscal year
2010 expenditures in more than 40 expenditure
categories (e.g., labor, local and non -local artists,
operations, materials, facilities, and asset acclOsiflon)
as well as about their event attendance, in -kind
contributions, and volunteerism. Responding
crganizatiGns had budgets ranging from a lo►v of $0
to a high of $234.7 rnilliott. Response rates for the
182 communities averaged 43.2 percent and ranged
from 5.3 percent to 100 percent. It is important to
note that each study reg oa's results are based solely
on the actual survey data collected. No estimates
have been made to account for rion respondents.
Therefore, the less -than -100 percent response rates
suggest an understatement of the econornic impact
findings in most of tile individual study regions.
I the city or Eugene, 29 af'tlae approNimittety 94
total eligible nonprofit rang anti culture
organizations identi tie d by the Arts alnd Business
Alliance of Eugene participated in this ,stuctv--an
overall participation rate of 31 percent.
1 ar1s 61=c0, -fomrcPmspoMyjV I Amarrcam for th Arts
